Computer Science Ed Week & Hour of Code

csedThis week, our students have had a chance to get their hands on a few of the many STEAM-maker activities in our temporary maker space. After winter break, these, and many other activities will be available to classrooms. Be sure to ask your child about their experience in the space! Children's House students got to try their hand at Jelly Sandwich, a sequencing activity in preparation for coding, Green Screen, where they made costumes and posed in front of a winter Olympic back-drop, and Music Mash-up, which included making instruments from recyclables and testing their sound and vibration on an amplifier.

Lower Elementary students tried out Scratch Jr., a coding program, Stop Motion Animation, where they made a mini movie, and try their hand at directing a BlueBot robot. Upper Elementary students experienced Makey-Makey, an invention program that allowed students to turn different objects into piano key boards, littleBits, a set of electronics that allow students to invent and problem solve, and DrawBots, where students created drawing robots. Students were creative, inventive, and excited to be a part of this wonderful opportunity. The professors from Lesley University were impressed with their excitement and will continue to work with our staff and students throughout the remainder of the year as we continue to develop this program.
