Mindful Parents (Nov. 2015)

Mindful Parents
Posted on 11/06/2015
mindfulOn Thursday, October 29, the Tobin Mindful Parents met for the first time this school year. After getting settled, we explored what Mindfulness is, it's numerous benefits, and how to practice. We then tried a brief (six minute) mindfulness practice together, out of which came a flood of observations. It is amazing what happens when you take a moment to breathe and observe without trying to change what's happening around you and inside you. We then turned our attention to parenting; exploring Tobin Parenting Tips shared in last spring's meeting (see below) plus our own experiences. Finally we browsed the growing Mindful Parents' library and several of us checked out books to read and eventually share our impressions with the group. You are cordially invited to the next meeting: Thursday, December 3, 8AM. For more info contact: [email protected] or [email protected].

BREATHING TECHNIQUE OF THE MONTH:  "C.A.L.M."

WHAT IS IT: A Mindfulness trick that is so quick (four breaths only); you can do it anytime, anywhere, and enjoy feeling clearer and calmer immediately before going on with your active day; no experience necessary.

HOW TO DO IT:
  • Inhale then exhale deeply focusing on the sensations in your Chest.
  • Inhale then exhale deeply focusing on the sensations in your Arms.
  • Inhale then exhale deeply focusing on the sensations in your Legs.
  • Inhale then exhale deeply focusing on the sensations in your Mind.
Congratulations: You've just given a boost to your physical and mental wellbeing. Observe a more peaceful day!
