What roads led you to the Tobin Montessori School?
When I started college, I was a Fine Arts major, but somewhere along the way, I found myself switching paths! My grandfather first suggested that I should be a teacher and at first I thought it was a ridiculous idea. I was trying to decide between sculpture, drawing and painting. But then, it turned out he was right and here I am! I have taught at all levels in both public and private settings. I started out teaching art, science and social studies. But I discovered that my students struggled with their content classes because they didn't have reading skills. So I went back to school to learn how to teach reading. I did a Masters in Language and Literacy at Harvard and actually interned at the Peabody School. I enjoyed that brief exposure to Cambridge Schools. Little did I know I would have the chance to come back! For 10 years, I worked as a Reading Specialist and then a Literacy Coach in Chelsea, a city that still has a special place in my heart. But when I saw the listing for the position at Tobin - I jumped at the chance. I had a feeling right away that this school was a special place and I was right! I am so thrilled to be here. This is truly a remarkable school.

When school is closed because of a snow storm, what do you like to do?
If I am lucky, I might get a little extra sleep. There is usually some shoveling required - but then I love to play outside with my three-year-old daughter. We are master snow-fort builders! When she naps, I might try to do some sketching or writing.

Who would you like to play you in a movie?
This is a really hard question. I have no idea! I know I don't look anything like her, but I think Michelle Williams is a versatile and talented actress. Maybe she could be my choice.

Which do you prefer: ocean or lake?
I love water in any form - ocean, lake, river, stream. I am happiest when I am near water. If I had my dream though, I would settle into a little cabin by a lake surrounded by trees, with a dock where I could dive into deep cool water and then sit and watch the sun set at the end of the day.

Favorite sports team?
We are big fans of the Olympics and the Tour de France, but other than that I don't really watch sports on TV. But I love going to see the Red Sox at Fenway!

Coffee or tea?
My former students used to call me "Miss Coffee" because I drank so much of it - but I gave it up! Now, I mostly drink tea or chai...with the occasional lapse for a really good latte!

Favorite flavor ice cream?
Ben and Jerry's chocolate chip cookie dough.
