The entire class was surprised when our teacher, Miss Stacey, came in the class wearing surgery clothes. I thought someone was actually hurt. She said that we were going to dissect something. We all knew it was a joke but we didn't know what the joke was. Eventually Ms Stacey said that we were going to dissect our old Scholastic News. Then she left for a couple minutes to go get our own clothes. When she came back everyone's jaw dropped when she started taking things out of the bag. Inside the bag were our clothes: ponchos, masks, gloves and hairnet. We all immediately put them on and started cutting.

We used T.H.I.E.V.E.S: Title, headings, introductions, every first sentence, visuals & vocab, end of source, summarize. This was a strategy we used to help us understand how to read and write nonfiction text. We cut out the different parts of Scholastic and put it on a chart. It's safe to say that this was the funnest thing we've done this week.
