Meet Our Children's House Paraprofessional: Ms. Ari Gordon!

Where did you grow up and what brought you to Tobin?
I was born in Florida but I grew up in Massachusetts. I used to work as a supervisor at a swim school but my love for kids brought me to the Tobin summer camp, where I worked as a floater. It was something I really enjoyed, and just when I thought it was going to end I was offered a lead position for the afterschool program which I happily accepted!

I go to Umass Boston as an environmental science major but I decided to take a break from school. I needed another source of income and it was brought to my attention that a para position was open and I jumped at the opportunity. I am so glad to be involved with this school. Everyone has been so supportive and welcoming and I was able to feel a real sense of belonging within the first couple weeks!

What is your favorite time of year?
My favorite part of the year is the summer! The warm weather is so uplifting and I love summer activities, especially celebrating my birthday (June 17th) ! :)

Who was your favorite teacher at school and why?
My favorite teacher at school was Ms. McCormack from 7th grade. She was a science teacher and she was so passionate about what she taught that it inspired me. I was always naturally curious about the why of things. She always incorporated hands-on learning which was my favorite, and she was always supportive about everything I wanted to know about. That year for the science fair, I had the idea of building a robot. I found this “artbot” idea and she helped us make it happen. It was successful, and the artbot we built was able to draw in 3 different patterns. Our project made it to the regional science fair! It was a proud accomplishment of mine and I will never forget her.

Skiing in Aspen or sunning in the tropics?
I'm all for trying new things, so I would try skiing in Aspen! Although I love the summer, I think skiing in Aspen would be a memory I would never forget, even if I end up falling and eating snow on my way down the slopes.

What is a hobby you have outside of school?
I play volleyball! I've been playing for more than 8 years and I play in college. I also love working out and being active.

Favorite movie?
I'm so indecisive that I stared at this question for 5 minutes before coming up with an answer. I honestly don't have a favorite but I am down to watch a good scary movie at any time of the day!

Update: It's now 11PM and I am now realizing what my favorite movie is. It's called Soul and it's a Disney movie that shows how to appreciate the smaller things in life.

Dark or milk chocolate?
Milk chocolate all the way :)
