sarahMeet our Art Teacher, Sarah White!

Where did you grow up and what brought you to Tobin?
I grew up in Arlington! My family is super close. After college I moved back to the Boston area to be nearer to them, and chose Cambridge because it’s such a lively and beautiful community. Naturally when I was looking for a school I began my search locally, and here I am!

What is your favorite time of year?
Definitely Autumn. I’m crazy for the foliage, the comfort foods, and the sweaters!

Who was your favorite teacher at school and why?
Mrs. Mcnamara. There are a lot of teachers that I loved, but she was the first one that really stuck with me. On the first day of 3rd grade, I was nervous and was sitting at the back of the class pulling at my cheeks, and in the middle of a lesson she stopped and said: “You know, if you keep doing that, your face is going to stick that way!” At the time, I was absolutely mortified. But she had a way of making me feel seen and acknowledged- I think that was her way of breaking some of the stress of my first day of school, and letting me know that I wasn’t invisible.

Skiing in Aspen or sunning in the tropics?
Sunning in the tropics, I guess. I don’t ski but I do sunburn… Can I choose something in a forest instead?

Favorite movie?
Probably either Signs or To Catch a Thief.

Dark or milk chocolate?
Milk Chocolate. I know dark chocolate is healthier, but I think it’s sort of moot if I’m already eating sweets. I’m a big fan of getting hot chocolate at L.A. Burdick’s in Harvard Square!
