Summer Reading 2019

Summer Reading 2019
Posted on 06/18/2019
Dear Tobin Families,

It is hard to believe that summer is almost here! Your children have worked so hard this year! We are immensely proud of how they’ve grown in their abilities to read, discuss and write about texts. We know that the best way to continue growing as readers and thinkers is to continue reading. Summer is the perfect time to dive into a great book. Twenty minutes of reading a day (or more!) will keep your student’s mind active, engaged and thriving!

Tobin’s 2019 Summer Reading theme is “I Can Make A Difference!” We’ve put together a great selection of books about people, real and imagined, who have made a difference in the world. Each student will bring home a book of their choice. Look for other great resources in your envelope, including an annotated book list (bring it with you to the library!), a reading calendar and a CPSD summer reading bookmark.

When school resumes in September, we will have our second Annual Book Club Day. Students from across the school will gather together and meet with others who read the same book over the summer. It’s a fun opportunity to connect with others and talk about the books. In your envelope, you’ll find a short discussion guide with some questions to get your student thinking.

Additionally, Tobin students have put together the 2019 Tobin Student Choice Book Challenge! Check out the enclosed lists - if you read all five books on a list, you are invited to a pizza party and are eligible to vote for the award winning book!

Be sure to check out the Cambridge Public Library’s wonderful summer reading program and other great ideas on the Summer Reading page of the CPSD website.

We wish you a fun and safe summer. Remember to read, read, READ!

Sincerely,

Jaime Frost
