The school is built on one of the octagonal courtyards at the front of the school facing Vassal Lane. Garden construction began in 2007 with raised beds and a garden shed in the open courtyard. A small fruit orchard was planted on the west side of the school in 2009. CitySprouts staff built three beds just outside of the garden near the pathway.
CitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the principle that all children should experience hands-on learning with real-world applications, support and practice in making good food choices, and a life-long connection to the natural world. CitySprouts’ garden educator is at the Tobin school twice each week during the fall and spring to support teachers' lessons and projects in the school garden. CitySprouts has volunteer opportunities in the garden throughout the year, if you would like to get involved please email [email protected].
