The school is built on one of the octagonal courtyards at the front of the school facing Vassal Lane. Garden construction began in 2007 with raised beds and a garden shed in the open courtyard. A small fruit orchard was planted on the west side of the school in 2009. CitySprouts staff built three beds just outside of the garden near the pathway.
CitySprouts is a school garden program founded on the belief that all children should have the chance to explore science through hands-on, real-world experiences from an early age. By observing, experimenting, and discovering in the garden, students build a strong foundation in science learning and curiosity about the natural world.
A CitySprouts Garden Educator visits the Tobin Montessori School every other week throughout the year. Garden Educators partner with the classroom teacher to engage students in investigations and projects.
CitySprouts also offers volunteer opportunities in the garden year-round. If you’d like to get involved, please email [email protected].
